Black Like Me – 11th Game from Critical Gameplay

Washington, DC – 12h August, 2013 – Independent game developers Critical Gameplay and Mindtoggle are proud to announce the release of a new critical game, Black Like Me-A Color Game, on Google Play and the Apple App store.
Match colors at a feverish pace in this hypnotic puzzle game. The imaginative environment masks a deeper meaning. This critical design is actually a piece of procedural rhetoric about race, color and discrimination. The longer players match colors the more the colors look the same.
The game is the first partnership between Mindtoggle, a casual game company and Critical Gameplay, a collection of art games. The game was inspired by images of “actors playing other races – there skin color might be different but race and identity are more complex than a darker tan”, says the developer. “In a visual society, especially in the gut response world of gameplay, we make judgments on one or two characteristics – like color” adds the developers. The game is designed for casual play, so people who do not understand its deeper themes can enjoy it too.
Key Features:
• Critical Play about color and discrimination
• Hypnotic play and art
